What is a CSA?

CSA = Community Supported Agriculture

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.  It is a bridge and a collaboration; a direct relationship of mutual support and commitment between local farmers and consumers.

It is based on the simple principle of connecting people to their local food source. When you join, you enter into a partnership that is dedicated to bringing fresh, organically grown produce directly from our fields to your table each week. Your membership helps to pay for seeds, water, equipment, repairs, and labor in the early season when expenses are high and income is low.  In return, the farm provides just-picked produce each week during the harvest season.

CSA members make a commitment to support the farm through their annual membership. This commitment ensures the survival of local, sustainable agriculture by sharing the risk and bounty of the farm. By joining you become an active part of the farm’s success and community.

Membership in the St. Croix Valley CSA
Enjoy a wondrous food adventure, as you eat with the seasons and discover new favorite foods! There are several share box sizes and frequency of delivery options, making St. Croix Valley CSA extremely accessible to most households. Each delivery includes a box full of a wide variety of organically grown produce, plus frequent herbs and fruit- all are delivered fresh, clean, and cold, directly from the farm to pick up locations throughout the Twin Cities.  The farmers may even surprise you with an occasional treat!

To help you fully savor your produce share, you’ll get weekly innovative ideas for fast and easy meal planning, along with useful produce storage tips.  Liz Talley, CSA facilitator, recipe developer, and avid home cook for over 40 years, provides members with many simple, creative recipes that coordinate with the contents of each week’s box.  You will also receive letters and stories from your farmers to keep you updated on the crops’ status, and the joys and challenges of farm life.

Most of all, it’s about community and being connected.  To the safe, wholesome food you eat. To the rich, local soil where it was grown.  To the family farm way of life.   And for all of us, to each other.

Share CSA Program Urban Graze and the farms are committed to promoting the availability and sustainability of healthy food, and to fostering community.  Through donations, the Share CSA Program brings wholesome food to seniors, kids, and families in our community who may not otherwise have access to it.
